I'm just learning about shapes, lines, light, and shadows. I'm learning as I do what I think works. I don't think I can be taught what to do. I think each piece of wood is so different and what you can do with it really depends on reading its information. I try and start with the natural boundaries like the limbs. I want to keep them. From there I just look deeper by cutting away the outer layers till I can see the grain inside...
